Offer a First Session
A free or reduced first session is one of the warmest ways to open your door. Someone who is curious but not ready to commit can come once, meet you, and decide from there.
Tatiya keeps track of who has already had one, so you don't have to.
What You'll Do
- Turn on a first-session offer for a booking type
- Choose who can take it and how often
- See how many of those first sessions turn into paying customers
Set It Up
1. Open the booking type
Go to Bookings > Booking Types, choose the offering you want, and click Edit.
2. Turn on "Offer a first session"
You'll find it just under Price. Switch it on and three settings appear.
3. Set the price
Leave it at 0 to make the first session free, or enter a reduced price.
It has to be lower than the booking type's normal price — otherwise it isn't an offer, and we'll tell you so before you save.
4. Choose who can take it
| Setting | Who gets the price |
|---|---|
| First-timers only | Only people who have never booked with you before |
| Anyone | Everyone, up to the limit you set — useful for a seasonal promotion |
5. Choose how often
Times per person is how many times one person can take the offer. Most spaces leave this at 1.
6. Set an end date (optional)
Last day to claim it closes the offer on a date you choose. Leave it empty and the offer stays open until you switch it off.
Save, and the offer is live.
What Visitors See
Someone eligible sees the first-session price on your booking page and again at checkout, with your normal price shown alongside it so they know what it costs after.
Someone who has already booked with you sees your normal price. They are never shown an offer they can't have.
When You Add a Booking Yourself
If you add someone at the front desk or from a message they sent you, Tatiya tells you as you type their details whether they qualify:
First session — this one is on the house. We'll apply it when you add them.
or
They have booked with you before, so the normal price applies.
You don't have to remember who has already had their free session.
How We Recognise Someone
We match people by email first, then phone number. If someone books with the same email or the same phone number they used before, we know it's them.
If you add a guest with neither an email nor a phone number, we have no way to recognise them next time — so they'll qualify again. If your offer matters to you, ask for an email or a phone number.
A cancelled booking still counts as a booking. If someone books their first session and cancels, they won't qualify for another one. This keeps the offer from being claimed over and over. If you'd like to make an exception for someone, add their booking yourself and set the price by hand.
Does It Work?
This is the part that matters. Go to Insights and look at First sessions.
| What you'll see | What it means |
|---|---|
| First sessions given | How many people took your offer in this period |
| Turned into paying customers | How many of them later booked something they paid for |
| Typical time to return | How long people usually take to come back and pay |
Reading it fairly
Give it time. A first session someone took last week hasn't had a chance to become a paid booking yet, so the current month will always look worse than it is. Last Month is the fairer number, and it's shown next to the current one so you can compare.
Typical time to return is worth watching too. If people usually come back within two weeks, a gentle note after ten days is well timed. If it's usually two months, that same note arrives too early.
First-session insights are available on every plan, including Free. Whether your offer earns you anything shouldn't be something you have to pay to find out.
A Few Things Worth Knowing
Members don't use up their free session. If someone's membership already covers a booking, we charge them nothing and leave their first-session offer unclaimed for another time.
You can run more than one. The offer lives on the booking type, so a free 1:1 taster and a free group session can both exist, each with its own rules.
Switching it off doesn't change past bookings. Bookings already taken at the first-session price stay as they are, and keep counting in your insights.
